World Environment Day

'Let's nurture the nature so that we can have a better future.'

World Environment Day was celebrated with great zeal and fervour in the month of June through special assemblies, thought- provoking webinars and multifarious activities. Students of classes Nursery to S7 participated enthusiastically in the special virtual assemblies held on June 3 and June 4, 2021 . World Environment Day 2021 theme 'Reimagine Recreate Restore' prompted the students to ponder on the current environmental issues and motivated them to do their bit to heal the environment.

A skit focusing on the importance of trees in the eco-system, PowerPoint presentations explaining in detail the significance of World Environment Day and a documentary followed by group discussions made the students aware of the hazards that humans are causing to the environment. Every one took a pledge that they would become the green police and help prevent the use of plastic bags; stop wastage of food, start using public conveyance to save fuel and make recycling an essential practice.

Students of the Primary wing participated in eco friendly best out of waste craft activities. They created beautiful and useful objects using waste material and clay respectively. They also contributed in making the Ten Commandments for themselves that included always saving electricity and water, recycling rain water, using solar energy, reducing the use of natural resources, feeding birds and animals etc. The hands on learning activities focused on raising awareness among the students regarding the 3 Rs - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. During the craft activities, empty containers, old newspapers and empty toothpaste boxes were used to make decorative pieces, storage boxes, pencil boxes, paper bags and envelopes.

Students were also encouraged to be the environmental police of their house by requesting their family members to switch off lights, power plugs when not in use, to save water by switching to bucket bath and using paper bags etc.

The project 'RESTORE LE TERRE' led by the Interact Club of the senior wing aimed at working on restoring the environment by making posters, taking pledges, planting saplings , making bird feeders etc. Senior students voiced their opinion and gave suggestions on environment preservation. Their commitment towards the goal reflected in the zealous recitation of poems, slogans and during group discussions too. The students came up with interesting ideas and methods of making the environment a healthy space for all.

Students of classes S5 to S7 attended a webinar conducted in association with World Wide Federation India wherein a renowned environmentalist and author, Ms Megha Gupta acquainted them with various facts that helped them to gain a vast expanse of knowledge related to the current situation of the environment. The highlight of the session was the revelation of various career paths that one could take in the environment sector.

The plethora of activities , brain storming sessions and discussions helped in bringing home the vital concept of conservation of environment, which is the need of the hour.
