Visit to Village Sevli

A visit to village Sevli, Sonipat was organised by The Modern School, ECNCRECNCR on November 25, 2019 for a field survey as part of the Geography practical for the students of classes S6 and S7 of Humanities stream. All the students carried a questionnaire on behalf of which the survey was to be conducted.

The objectives of the survey were to research the following:

1. The occupational structure of the settlement

2. Sex ratio of the village settlement

3. The economic condition of the settlement

4. Social condition including literacy of the settlement.

The students, on reaching the village, first met the village Pradhan, Shri Ravinder Kumar. After a warm interaction with us, he accompanied them for the village survey to interact with the villagers to understand their settlement. As the region at present has got the government attention following which many new projects have attracted investments in the region, the condition of people there has improved a lot. Around twenty households of the settlement were visited by the students along with their Geography teacher, Mr. Janendra Yadav.

The region has a semi urban set up as most of the people their reside in pucca houses with proper sanitation facilities. Only few of the houses are not solidly built. The students found that the village consisted of two to three schools, both private and public. Literacy level was also nearly 100% with only few being left out without work. The prominent language spoken was Hindi with Haryanvi dialects.

Most of the villagers there were working in varying fields associated with secondary and tertiary sectors with only few left back to perform primary agriculture allied activities. The ones those who were highly educated had moved out of the country to settle abroad working as engineers and doctors with only their guardians and parents left in the village who narrated their story proudly.

Being a part of the Rajiv Gandhi Education City, the village is on the development stage as many sports complexes as well as educational institutions are in the pipeline. With the reforming social norms , village girls are also equally participating in the growth of the region. Girl child being a wrestler is no more a taboo for the villagers. Male-female ratio is also pretty fine and even the girls have moved abroad for higher studies equivalent to the boys.It was overall a valuable trip for the students as they practically analysed the village life at a cultural and economical level.
