Thar Trail: From Golden Dunes to Battle Tunes
The students of The Modern School, ECNCR embarked on an exciting Thar Desert Excursion from March 19 to March 23, 2026. A total of 46 students from S1–S3, accompanied by four teachers, participated in this enriching journey.
The trip began early on Day 1 as the group travelled to Jodhpur, the “Blue City,” known for its blue-painted houses that help regulate temperature and preserve tradition.
On Day 2, students visited the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort, one of India’s largest forts, offering breathtaking views of the city. The fort’s rich collection of royal artefacts fascinated everyone. Later, the group proceeded to Jaisalmer.
Day 3 included a visit to the War Museum, showcasing the bravery of the Indian Army, especially during the 1971 Battle of Longewala. The group then explored Jaisalmer Fort and, in the evening, enjoyed a camel ride at the Sam Sand Dunes, followed by a cultural programme and a traditional Rajasthani dinner of Dal Baati Churma.
Day 4 began with a visit to Kuldhara village, followed by Longewala and Tanot Mata Temple. A special highlight was participating in a langar organised by CRPF jawans. The students also visited the India–Pakistan border and later stopped at Pokhran for a brief photoshoot.
On Day 5, the group returned to Delhi with unforgettable memories of wildlife sightings, birdwatching, scenic landscapes, windmills, and even a rainbow over the Thar Desert.
The trip also instilled an important value—respecting and helping others. As a gesture of gratitude, students and staff presented a token of appreciation to the bus driver and conductor.
The Thar Trail was a perfect blend of learning, adventure, and lasting memories.
