Nehru Planetarium, Delhi

The Modern School, ECNCR organized an educational trip to Nehru Planetarium for the students of P4 and P5 on December 15, 2018. This trip was indeed a flight through the universe. The magnificent planetarium building captivated the students. A model satellite launcher at the entrance fascinated all of them. Before the students proceeded to the sky theatre, there was an informative session. The students stayed glued through the description of the solar system, trying to understand the details and to identify the different planets and even learning to recognize constellations. There were a few other exhibits at the Planetarium which enlightened the learners. One of the major attractions of this place was the Soyuz T-10 which carried India’s first cosmonaut Rakesh Sharma to space, along with his space suit and mission journal.

The students were also shown the movie “Our Universe” which showcased the arrangement of planets, position of stars and other interesting facts about the galaxy. As the lights dimmed and the journey through the stars began, the excitement among the students was overwhelming. The skies came alive on their massive dome theatre. The show was extremely good and provided a good visual experience as well as factual knowledge of astronomy. The trip proved to be an enjoyable learning experience for the students.

Last but not least, Students also visited the colonial residence of the first Indian Prime Minister, Teen MurthiBhawan, which has been converted into a museum after his death.

It houses many chronicles of his life and work, including his involvement with the Independence movement and as a champion in leading Indian democracy.

The visit was fulfilling in all aspects and the students were glad that they had an opportunity to visit such a fascinating place.
