Model United Nations

Nine students of The Modern School, ECNCR along their History teacher, Mr. Suraj Pal Singh participated in the Model United Nations (Mod MUN ) from October 4 to October 6, 2019, held in Modern School, Barakhamba Road.

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation in which students learn about diplomacy and international relations. This big gala event witnessed the participation of 38 schools and 580 delegates, who showcased their eloquence and erudition through speaking, debating and writing skills. MUN also provided them the platform to hone critical thinking, teamwork and leadership abilities. It helped students to develop a deeper understanding of the current world issues.

The countries which were allocated to us are as follows:
1. Somya Jain & Some in from class S7 ( Double Delegation)- Bangladesh
2. Suvanshi & Tanya Bajaj from class S6 ( Double Delegation)- St. Lucia
3. Devanshi Dibya - class S5 ( UNHRC- Yeman)- Bangladesh
4. Ritesh- class S5– Bangladesh
5. Rudraksh Sachin Joshi- class S5- Bangladesh
6. Dhruv Bansal & Aniket Nagpal from class S5 ( Double Delegation)- Zimbabwe


The Chief Guest at the opening day was former Indian diplomat, Ms.Deepa Vasudevan Wadhwa (IFS), who graced the occasion and I spired the students with her motivating words. She enlightened the gathering by sharing a glimpse of her vast experience of working with the United Nations Organization.

After her address, the different delegates of participating nations went to their allotted venues for debate and deliberations on the given issues. The different committees deliberated on various issues during the course of three days' brainstorming sessions.

Out of the ten given committees, our students participated in the following committees:
1. Somya Jain & Some in ( Double Delegation)- Bangladesh
2. Dhruv Bansal & Aniket Nagpal( Double Delegation)- Zimbabwe
The United Nations General Assembly (UNG)

Agenda: There were two agendas;
•Protection of the Global Climate for present and future generations of Humankind in the context of the economic, social and environmental dimensions of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development
•Universal Health Coverage


3. Ritesh -Bangladesh
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and The Pacific
Agenda: Enhancing Regional Economic cooperation through trade and investment in Asia and the Pacific

4. Divyanshi Dibya- Bangladesh
The United Nations Human Rights Council
Agenda: Discussing the situation of Human Rights in Yemen with emphasis on extrajudicial executions and the freedom of expression

5. Suvanshi & Tanya Bajaj ( Double Delegation)- St. Lucia
Alliance of small island states
Agenda: Developing mechanisms to ensure compliance of the success of the Paris Agreement

6. Rudraksh Joshi- Bangladesh
Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations

Agenda: (there were 2 agendas)
•Accountability, conduct, and discipline on peacekeeping operations
•Mainstreaming Gender in Peacekeeping operations


On the last day of the MUN, the participants were given certificates and prizes, as a token of appreciation for their efforts. Ms. Geeta Mayuri (IFS), who was the Chief guest of the occasion, motivated the delegates to work hard to shoulder the responsibility of taking the nation to greater heights. It was a great learning experience for all the students.
