‘Roller Skating is not only a sport but also a skilled art form.’

The Modern School, ECNCR took pride in hosting the Inter-School Roller Skating Championship 2018-19 in association with Interact Club of The Modern School sponsored by Rotary Club, Restoring Smiles Delhi on May 12, 2018. The Chief Guest of the occasion Mr. Ravi Chaudhary, District Governor, Rotary International District 3011 graced the occasion with his inspiring presence.

The Guest of Honour Ms. Megha Dubey, Mrs. East Asia Earth 2018 was also present to witness the event and encourage the students. 200 students from around 22 schools of Delhi NCR, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh participated in the event. The theme of the event was ‘Save Water’.

This initiative was taken up by the school to emphasize the need to conserve water and create awareness about the same. The school Principal, Ms. Abha Sadana welcomed the guests as well as the participants from various schools. The President of Interact Club, Tanya Khanna of class S5 elucidated the reason for choosing the theme ‘Save Water’. She explained the relevance of conservation of water. She highlighted the alarming condition of paucity of portable water across the world and subsequent repercussions of reckless wastage of water experienced in various places across the globe. Thereafter, the Chief Guest Mr. Ravi Chaudhary and Guest of Honour Ms. Megha Dubey declared the championship open.

The contestants competed with each other in 300 m and 500 m skating races respectively, as per their age groups. All the participants were given participation certificates and the winners were awarded with medals and accolades. The first position was bagged by The Modern School, ECNCR. DAV Public School, Police Line secured the second position and the third position was bagged by Saraswati Vidyalaya. The event culminated with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms Rimpy Verma, the Headmistress of the school who congratulated the winners of the event. The euphoria of the championship and the magnificent display of talent and skills by the young and budding skaters was awe inspiring for everyone present in the event.
