Debates at school level help in enhancing speaking skills as well as building confidence. An Inter-house English Debate Competition was held for classes P4 to S3 in The Modern School, ECNCR on December 12, 2018. The topic ‘Zoos must be abolished’ for classes P4 and P5 captivated the young minds and they came forth with their varied perspectives regarding the same. The participants from each section debated confidently and voiced their opinions.
Students of classes S1 to S3 debated on the topic ‘E- learning should be done at home, not in school (virtual school vs traditional school)’. Six students of each house participated actively in the debate and expressed their views with utmost confidence.
It was an enlightening experience for the participants and the audience. All the participants performed well and it was a neck to neck competition. However, Aadrita Nandi of class S2A was awarded as the best speaker for the motion and Diyuksha Chauhan of class S2B was awarded as the best speaker against the motion. Vindhyachal house bagged the position of the best house in the event.
In the Primary section, Shiven Bhatnagar of class P4B of Vindhyachal House bagged the Best Speaker Award for the motion and Varini Poddar of class was awarded as the best speaker against the motion.
Himachal House bagged the position of the best house .The event ended on a cheerful note and with afeeling of pride and accomplishment evident among students.
