Doll Museum
The students of P2 went on an educational excursion to Doll Museum on May 7, 2019. The children saw a variety of dolls, learnt about their outfits and different countries they belonged to. Shankar’s International Doll Museum in Delhi is a renowned museum that has one of the world’s largest collection of dolls. It was set up by K. Shankar Pillai (1902–1989), the famous political cartoonist.
From a thousand dolls when it was first started, the museum in the present day has more than 6000 dolls. Besides a collection of over 150 types of authentic Indian costume dolls created at the Dolls Workshop, the students saw some special displays in the museum.
They were told that the Indian dolls handcrafted at the workshop were exchanged for dolls received from abroad and were also sold to museums and collectors in India as well as abroad.
Each doll displayed in the museum was made after careful research, keeping important aspects in mind like the physical outlook, jewellery and dress.
The students had fun looking at the exquisite dolls and learning about different cultures and traditions through them.
